HOE EEN KLEIN CULTUURPODIUM EEN WERELDPUBLIEK BEREIKT
Cultuurpodium De Cactus in Hengelo, bekend als “het kleinste podium van Twente”, slaat een
nieuwe weg in. Eigenaar Erwin Kwakman heeft via het streamingplatform NOTV een manier
gevonden om zijn concerten niet alleen lokaal, maar ook wereldwijd toegankelijk te maken. Door
het café te voorzien van moderne audiovisuele opnameapparatuur is het nu eenvoudig mogelijk
om de beelden ook als livestream aan te bieden aan kijkers. Partner en ticketed livestream-
specialist NOTV brengt de concerten vervolgens rechtstreeks naar huiskamers over de hele
wereld. Hiermee ontstaat een extra verdienmodel voor zowel de artiesten als voor het podium
zelf. Dankzij deze innovatie kan De Cactus, ondanks de beperkte zaalcapaciteit, nu ook grotere
namen programmeren.
De aftrap vindt plaats op 15 augustus met de wereldwijde album- en tourprimeur van het JB
MEIJERS Power Rock Trio. In de weken daarna volgen livestreams van onder andere Thijs van
Leer, Zach Aaron, Wow Factor, Cromwell, Moses Patrou, Tim Grimm en Murali Coryell.

Over JB Meijers
De Nederlandse zanger, gitarist, multi-instrumentalist en producer Jan-Bart “JB” Meijers (1972) is al
meer dan 40 jaar (inter)nationaal actief op het podium en in de studio. Het grote publiek kent hem als lid van The Common Linnets. JB stond op het podium met uiteenlopende artiesten, waaronder De Dijk, Mercury Rev, Peter Maffay, Anastacia en Barry Hay. Als producer werkte hij met onder meer Tröckener Kecks, Frank Boeijen, Daryll-Ann, Carice van Houten, Howe Gelb/Giant Sand en Acda en De Munnik. Daarnaast bracht hij diverse solo-albums uit en trad hij op met zijn eigen band. In 2025 vervolgt hij zijn solocarrière met de release van zijn nieuwste gitaarrockalbum. Vanaf het najaar van 2025 staat JB met zijn trio – Jasja Johanna (bas) en Joost Kroon (drums) – weer op de planken met splinternieuw solowerk.

HOW A SMALL CULTURE VENUE REACHES A GLOBAL AUDIENCE
Culture venue De Cactus in Hengelo, known as “the smallest stage in Twente,” is taking a new
direction. Owner Erwin Kwakman has found a way through the streaming platform NOTV to make
his concerts accessible not only locally but also worldwide. By equipping the venue with modern
audiovisual recording equipment, it’s now easy to create live streams to viewers. Partner and
ticketed livestream specialist NOTV then brings these concerts directly into living rooms all over
the world. This innovation creates an extra revenue stream for both artists and the venue itself.
Thanks to this technological advance, De Cactus can now book bigger names, despite its limited
capacity.
The kickoff takes place on August 15 with the worldwide album and tour premiere of the JB
MEIJERS Power Rock Trio. In the following weeks, livestreams from Thijs van Leer, Zach Aaron,
Wow Factor, Cromwell, Moses Patrou, Tim Grimm, and Murali Coryell, among others, will follow.

The Dutch singer, guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Jan-Bart “JB” Meijers (1972) has been active (inter)nationally on stage and in the studio for over 40 years. The general public knows him as a member of The Common Linnets. JB has performed with numerous artists, including De Dijk, Mercury Rev, Peter Maffay, Anastacia, and Barry Hay. As a producer, he has worked with acts such as Tröckener Kecks, Frank Boeijen, Daryll-Ann, Carice van Houten, Howe Gelb/Giant Sand, and Acda en De Munnik. He has also released several solo albums and performed with his own band. In 2025 he continues his solo career with the release of his latest guitar rock album. From the fall of 2025, JB and his trio—Jasja Johanna (bass) and Joost Kroon (drums)—will return to the stage with brand new solo work.
